A delicate antique cotton combination step-in dating to the Edwardian era, made from lightweight white cotton with lace insertion and soft pink ribbon detailing throughout the neckline. The upper bodice features decorative embroidered and lace panels, while the simple silhouette reflects the practical undergarments worn beneath early twentieth-century dress.
Originally intended as part of a layered dressing system, pieces like this reduced bulk while adding quiet decorative details hidden beneath clothing. The pale pink ribbon gives the piece a softer and more romantic appearance than many surviving examples.

Curator’s Note
Some of the most beautiful details in historic clothing were never meant to be seen. Edwardian undergarments often carried as much care and decoration as the garments worn over them — lace insertion, ribbon threading, and delicate handwork appearing in places only the wearer would know existed. The pink ribbon detail here feels especially charming, adding a small touch of color to an otherwise quiet whitework piece.
