A full-length black column gown by Roberta, constructed in layered tiers of fine fringe that create continuous movement across the body. The silhouette is long and narrow, designed to elongate, while the surface shifts with every step.
The bodice is suspended by delicate rhinestone-accented straps that cross at the back, framing an open back and fastening above a center back zipper. The fringe is densely applied in horizontal rows from bust through hem, creating a dimensional, almost liquid effect in motion.

Curator’s Note
Fringe of this density belongs to a later revival moment rather than the 1920s originals—where movement is referenced, not replicated. By the late 1980s into the 1990s, eveningwear returned to surface and motion, often using synthetic or rayon fringe to achieve a heavier, more sculptural drape.
Here, the silhouette remains controlled—a column rather than a flared dress—allowing the texture to carry the visual weight. The rhinestone straps introduce just enough light at the shoulder, keeping the piece anchored in evening rather than costume.
It is not a reproduction of a flapper dress. It is a reinterpretation—more restrained, more vertical, and designed for a different kind of presence.
