This late Victorian walking coat is one of them. Crafted from ivory wool and finished with intricate soutache braid, it captures the elegant tailoring of the late nineteenth century. The softly puffed sleeves, fitted silhouette, and sweeping lines create a striking profile, while the elaborate soutache design continues across the back in a pattern that is just as beautiful as the front.
Styled on the mannequin with a ruffled blouse and equestrian skirt, this coat feels right at home in the salon, but its true appeal is as a remarkable survivor from the Victorian era.
This is an exceptionally petite garment. While it may fit a very small modern frame, it is best appreciated as a collector’s piece or display garment. Please rely on the measurements below rather than modern sizing.

The back of this coat is what captured my attention. The soutache braid isn’t simply decorative—it was thoughtfully placed to follow the shape of the garment, creating movement from every angle. Pieces like this remind us that everyday outerwear was once made with extraordinary care.
