Description
A wonderful original 1940s Halloween centerpiece by H. E. Luhrs, made for the Beistle line of party decorations. This dramatic orange-and-black owl has wide printed paper wings and a dimensional honeycomb-tissue body that opens into a freestanding display.
The old-school graphic design is exactly why these early paper decorations are so collectible: cheerful, a little uncanny, and made to turn an ordinary table into a Halloween party. Complete with its original fastening tabs and displayed beautifully in the Halloween Cabinet.
Curator’s Note
This owl is the sort of thing that makes me stop and rearrange an entire shelf around it. It has survived nearly eighty Halloweens, still opening into a wonderful little burst of orange and black paper. I love it enough that it can stay awhile—but for the right collector, it is ready for its next October.
