Description
Sculptural late-1980s suede jacket by Danier, crafted in Canada and cut with a sharply defined power silhouette. Executed in deep aubergine purple suede, the jacket features strong structured shoulders, a nipped waist, and an angled cutaway front that creates a tailored, architectural line through the torso.
Tonal exotic-embossed leather is integrated at the lapels, pockets, cuffs, and lower hem, adding surface complexity while remaining deliberately understated. Fully lined in rich plum acetate, the interior construction reflects Danier’s reputation for vertically integrated leather production and precision tailoring during this period.
A statement piece that bridges late-20th-century power dressing with material-driven design.
Curator’s Note
During the late 1980s, Danier distinguished itself by producing leather garments in-house, allowing for advanced experimentation with cut, surface, and structure. This jacket exemplifies that moment: assertive tailoring softened by suede, and ornamentation achieved through texture rather than contrast.
The unusual purple tone and restrained use of exotic-embossed leather elevate the piece beyond conventional leatherwear, placing it firmly within the language of power dressing rather than trend-based fashion. It is a jacket designed to command presence without spectacle.
