Description
A beautifully preserved Edwardian white cotton day dress dating to the years immediately preceding the First World War. Constructed from lightweight white cotton with extensive pintucking throughout the bodice and sleeves, the dress features a delicate lace yoke, lace-trimmed sleeve bands, and a wide lace waistband that creates a softly defined silhouette.
The skirt falls in graceful vertical lines and is finished with multiple rows of sheer insertion bands and applied trim near the hem. The result is a dress that feels both practical and refined, representative of the elegant daywear worn during the final years of the Edwardian era.
The dress closes at the back with its original button closure and remains a remarkably wearable example of early twentieth-century dressmaking.

Edwardian white dresses occupied a special place in a woman’s wardrobe. Worn for warm-weather outings, visits, travel, garden gatherings, and everyday social occasions, these garments balanced comfort with careful craftsmanship.
What makes this example particularly appealing is the combination of simplicity and detail. The lace yoke, extensive pintucking, and layered insertion bands create visual interest without relying on heavy embellishment. More than a century later, the dress still conveys the lightness and optimism associated with the years often remembered as the “Titanic era.”
